Journal: Cardiorenal Medicine

Submission Deadline: December 31, 2025

Cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome is defined as a condition characterized by the interactions among metabolic risk factors, chronic kidney diseases (CKD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), resulting in multiorgan dysfunction and premature morbidity and mortality. In the past years, there have been significant advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology of CKM syndrome and several therapeutic strategies have been developed to mitigate its impact. However, several gaps remain in our scientific understanding of the mechanism leading to CKM and therapeutic interventions.

The goal of this Call for Papers is to bring together articles highlighting the interactions linking metabolic risk factors, such as obesity and type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and kidney dysfunction with special emphasis on novel concepts as well as controversies and gaps that need future research. For this article collection, the journal will consider original research articles, brief reports, and review articles focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Pharmacotherapy in CKM prevention
  • Primary and secondary CKM prevention
  • Identification of subclinical CVD in CKD and role of imaging and biomarkers
  • Dietary and lifestyle modification and its role in CKM prevention
  • Sympathetic modulation in CKM by device-based therapies: emerging role of renal nerve denervation and carotid body stimulation
  • Renal replacement therapy in CKM: challenges for dialytic therapies and kidney transplantation

Please select the option “Call for Papers: Advances and Controversies in CKM Syndrome” when submitting your manuscript and mention this Call for Papers in your cover letter.
