Journal: Digestive Surgery

Submission Deadline: March 15, 2026

This collection of peer-reviewed articles is envisioned to explore the expanding role of robotics in digestive surgery, a field undergoing rapid transformation with the arrival of new systems and technologies. Authors are encouraged to contribute articles that address the development of structured training and education pathways, including both general and procedure-specific programs for surgical residents, with measurable outcomes and educational rigor. The collection also aims to examine sustainability from multiple angles — economic, ergonomic, and environmental — highlighting how robotic platforms can support long-term viability for surgeons and healthcare systems.

Contributions may include overviews of CE/FDA-approved robotic systems, as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), and autonomous robotics. Procedure-specific insights into the value of robotics in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB), pancreatic, upper gastrointestinal (UGI), and colorectal (CRC) surgery are highly encouraged. Authors are welcome to submit Research, Review, and Systematic Review articles.

Please select the option “Call for Papers: Robotic Surgery in Gastroenterology” when submitting your manuscript and mention this Call for Papers in your cover letter.

Article publication is subject to rigorous peer review in line with the journal's editorial policies. Please refer to our author guidelines for further details about the publication conditions.

As a hybrid journal, Digestive Surgery supports Open Access publications. Corresponding authors can publish Open Access articles at no or reduced cost if they are associated with or employed by one of these universities/institutions.
