European Addiction Research aims to explore the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of addiction science. As digital technologies continue to reshape healthcare, AI-driven tools are emerging as powerful assets in understanding, preventing, and treating substance use disorders.
This collection seeks to highlight cutting-edge research and critical perspectives on how AI is being integrated into addiction research and clinical practice. We welcome Research Articles, Brief Reports, Methods and Review Articles that address, but are not limited to, the following topics:
- Predictive modeling and risk stratification for substance use disorders using AI (including applications to brain and/or genetic data).
- AI-assisted diagnostics and screening tools for early detection of addictive behaviors.
- Digital therapeutics and adaptive interventions powered by AI for personalized treatment delivery (e.g., chatbots).
- Natural language processing (NLP) for analyzing clinical notes, patient narratives, or social media data related to addiction.
- Ethical, legal, and social implications of AI deployment in addiction care.
- Implementation science evaluating the real-world impact of AI tools in addiction services.
