Journal: Neuroepidemiology
Submission Deadline: April 30, 2026
Neuroepidemiology is launching a thematic collection dedicated to epidemiological studies exploring sociocultural factors that shape the understanding, experience, and management of epilepsy across diverse populations and healthcare contexts. Epilepsy is not only a neurological condition—it is deeply embedded in cultural narratives, social beliefs, and medical practices.
This collection aims to highlight how myths, stigma, and cultural perceptions influence both public and clinical approaches to epilepsy, and how these can be addressed through rigorous scientific inquiry. We encourage contributions that advance understanding and foster inclusive, evidence-based approaches to epilepsy care worldwide. Editorials or letters of perspective offering expert commentary on the intersection of culture and epilepsy care are also welcome.
We welcome submissions of:
- Research Articles presenting original epidemiological data
- Review Articles synthesizing current epidemiological knowledge on sociocultural aspects of epilepsy
- Systematic Reviews evaluating epidemiological literature on cultural beliefs, stigma, and health outcomes
- Editorials or Letters of perspective offering expert commentary on the intersection of culture and epilepsy care
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Cultural beliefs and myths surrounding epilepsy
- Impact of stigma on diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life
- Cross-cultural comparisons in epilepsy care and public health strategies
- Methodological approaches to studying sociocultural factors in neuroepidemiology
- Integration of sociocultural insights into clinical and policy frameworks
