Carbohydrates play a pivotal role in modern drug discovery and therapeutic development serving as both active pharmaceutical agents and crucial structural components in drug formulations. From glycan-based cancer therapeutics to carbohydrate-derived antibiotics these biomolecules exhibit diverse pharmacological activities that are essential for targeting a wide range of diseases. Advances in glycoscience and medicinal chemistry have expanded our understanding of carbohydrate-protein interactions enabling the design of more effective and selective therapeutics.

This collection explores the multifaceted roles of carbohydrates in pharmacology highlighting their significance in drug design delivery mechanisms and emerging therapeutic applications. By integrating recent breakthroughs in carbohydrate-based drug development this series aims to provide a comprehensive perspective on their potential to improve current therapeutical approaches.

Pharmacology is calling for contributions to its collection: “The Therapeutic Potential of Carbohydrates in Drug Development”. We welcome original research and reviews.

Please select the option “Call for Papers: Therapeutic Potential of Carbohydrates in Drug Development” when submitting your manuscript and mention this Call for Papers in your cover letter.
