Journal: Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy

Submission Deadline: December 31, 2025

In recent decades, significant progress in the safety of blood products concerning HIV, HBV and HCV has been made through enhanced serological and NAT testing. These improvements have greatly contributed to reducing the risk of transmission of these viruses.

However, due to climate change and/or improved surveillance, other pathogens are coming into focus. These include Hepatitis E virus, West Nile virus, Dengue virus and possibly Chikungunya virus, Malaria, and Babesiosis. New testing strategies are needed for these pathogens.

An unresolved issue remains the bacterial contamination of platelet concentrates. Various approaches to minimize the risk of transmission, such as pathogen reduction, contamination testing, or shortening the shelf life of platelet concentrates, are being discussed.

For an article collection on Blood Safety, the journal Transfusion Medicine and Hemotherapy welcomes the submission of manuscripts that address the latest developments and challenges in this field. We encourage researchers and practitioners to submit their latest findings and research results on these and related topics.

Please select the option “Call for Papers: Blood Safety” when submitting your manuscript and mention this Call for Papers in your cover letter.
