In the past, gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy underwent a major transformation. Historically intended mainly for diagnostic purposes, GI endoscopy has evolved into an interventional and therapeutic procedure. At the same time, the spectrum of interventional endoscopy itself has been expanding rapidly, especially over the past decade. As such, advanced endoscopic resection techniques — such as endoscopic submucosal dissection and third-space endoscopy — are increasingly spreading across Western countries and represent minimally invasive techniques for oncologic or functional disorders of the gastrointestinal tract that, in the past, frequently required surgical approaches.

This article collection welcomes Research, Review, and Systematic Review articles with the overall aim to shed light on state-of-the-art interventions in GI endoscopy, recent advances in the field, and future directions of therapeutic endoscopy.
